Nadine Haddad, MS Epidemiology 2009, receives award for
best oral presentation on "Ambulatory Sentinel Surveillance System in Lebanon"
October 19-22 in Amman, Jordan
Ms. Nadine Haddad, MS Epidemiology graduate, won the award for best oral presentation on "Ambulatory Sentinel
Surveillance System in Lebanon", at the first East Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) and the 4th TEPHINET Regional Scientific Conference
hosted by the Field Epidemiology Training Programs in the EMRO region in Amman, Jordan, from October 19-21, 2009. The theme of the conference was “Toward Healthy Communities in the Region”.
Ms. Haddad's presentation was based on the work she is undertaking at the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health where she is currently employed. The presentations of three other FHS EPHD graduate students Mrs. Laila Chaar, Mrs. Hala Abulnaja Saghir and Ms. Majd Saleh who participated in the conference, were also well received. Over 45 oral presentations and 30 poster presentations
were made by participants from Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, KSA, Egypt, Morocco, France (EpiSouth),
Pakistan, Afghanistan, India. Trainees and
graduates of field epidemiology training programs (FETPs), public health practice, and related programs
were invited to submit original abstracts on investigations or projects undertaken during training and completed within the past two years. Abstracts
were to describe outbreak investigations, implementation and evaluation of public health programs or surveillance communicable and non-communicable activities, or other areas in applied epidemiology or public health practice.
They also had to emphasize how the results of the investigation or an analysis were used to direct public health actions and estimate the public health impact.
